The Canadian GP Chaos: Red Bull Lodges Complaint Against Russell

The aftermath of the Canadian Grand Prix is far from over as Red Bull has officially filed a protest against George Russell for his driving under the Safety Car regime. A storm of controversy engulfs the checkered flag of the GP of Canada. The race result is now under scrutiny due to the official protest filed by Red Bull against the winner, George Russell, after race stewards noticed potential infractions by several drivers – including Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc, and Kimi Antonelli – under the Safety Car period.

The British driver and Max Verstappen are currently heading to the race stewards. The reasons for Red Bull’s complaint have not been disclosed, but the only moment of friction between the two during the race hints that the Milton Keynes team may have wanted to draw attention to Russell’s braking on lap 68 under the Safety Car on the long straight before the final chicane.

A braking maneuver that Super Max described as “aggressive” on the team radio, and perhaps in Red Bull’s view, Russell’s attempt to induce Verstappen to overtake momentarily behind the safety car, a move not allowed by the regulations, possibly knowing that Verstappen would face disqualification in Austria for any irregularity.
