George Russell Focused on Redemption After Securing Pole for Las Vegas GP -“Warns Mercedes to not repeat Interlagos defeat “

George Russell secured a stunning pole position for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, but the Mercedes driver was quick to temper his excitement, urging his team to avoid the strategic errors that cost him victory in Brazil.

Learning from Brazil’s Missteps

In Sao Paulo, Russell led the early stages after winning the drag race to Turn 1 but was undone by a poorly timed pit stop just before a red flag period. The strategy blunder dropped him down the order, leaving him unable to recover.

Still frustrated by that missed opportunity, Russell made it clear he doesn’t want history to repeat itself in Las Vegas.

“Definitely, it’s not the first time we are on the front row. We were leading in the last race [Sao Paulo], but we didn’t convert it,” Russell said after qualifying.

Taking Advantage of Pole Position

Starting from P1, Russell will have a clean track ahead of him, reducing concerns about dirty air and tire degradation—key advantages on a high-speed, low-grip street circuit like Las Vegas. This should give Mercedes the flexibility to explore strategic options, but Russell hinted they would likely stick to a standard approach.

“We will be starting on the medium [tires] and looking after it. Then some will pit, and others will go long. It’s Vegas, so I’ll take it as it comes.”

Breaking the Pole-to-Win Curse

Russell has yet to convert a pole position into a victory in his Formula 1 career. His maiden pole at the 2022 Hungarian GP ended without a win, and the pressure is on to break that streak in Las Vegas.

Challenges Ahead

Russell faces stiff competition from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who starts alongside him on the front row, and from teammate Lewis Hamilton, who has vowed to charge through the field from P10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen, starting fifth, remains a constant threat, even with Red Bull’s struggles this weekend.

Mercedes Eyes Redemption

After Brazil’s disappointment, Mercedes will be eager to redeem themselves and capitalize on the strong pace the W15 has shown throughout the weekend. Russell’s pole position marks a golden opportunity for the team to claim a much-needed victory as they close out the season.

“It’s all about execution tomorrow,” Russell added. “We’ve shown we have the pace; now it’s about making sure everything clicks. No mistakes this time.”

The Las Vegas GP promises high-stakes drama, and Russell will be determined to make his pole position count and add a second career victory to his resume.
