As the dust of the racing season settles, a storm of speculation and anticipation brews over the potential powerhouse pairing of George Russell and Colton Herta at Cadillac. The newly christened 11th Formula 1 team, Cadillac, has already made waves with a series of high-profile signings within its ranks, yet the question of who will be at the wheel of their machines remains.

Russell, currently leading the pack for Mercedes while driving the W16, is being eyed as a prospective addition to the Cadillac team. The latest buzz has it that Cadillac has already extended a contract offer to Colton Herta for F1 2026, leaving many to ponder who will be his companion on the grid.

Herta, a notable figure in the Andretti Global IndyCar team, has been a top contender since the American team’s initial application to become the 11th entrant in F1. Despite the name change to Cadillac, backed by General Motors, the Andretti Global influence remains strong, with Herta appearing to be a favorite to secure a seat.

The voices supporting this view include that of Andretti, a non-executive director, and CEO Dan Towriss, who have both been vocal in their praise for the American driver. Dutch racing driver and commentator Van der Zande has echoed these sentiments, stating that Herta’s current status as the highest-paid IndyCar driver, earning a hefty seven million dollars a year, is a strong indicator of his imminent move to F1.

The intrigue doesn’t stop there. The spotlight now turns to who would potentially join Herta at Cadillac. Jack Plooij, a fellow racing pundit, proposes that Russell, who has also been linked to Sergio Perez and Kevin Magnussen, could be an ideal choice.

Plooij bases his proposition on the rumored shake-up at Mercedes, where Max Verstappen is speculated to replace Russell. While this claim has been rebuffed by Verstappen’s father, Jos, Van der Zande has presented observations that may hint otherwise. His revelation of Verstappen and Mercedes boss Toto Wolff’s planes landing at Eindhoven Airport with a half-hour gap has sparked further conjecture about the possible shift in alliances.

Despite the whirlwind of hearsay, Verstappen remains steadfast, asserting that he will continue with Red Bull as long as he’s content and winning. As the racing world awaits confirmation, one thing is for certain – the next season is set to be a thrilling ride, with new teams, new faces, and potentially, new alliances.
