George Russell Claims Verstappen’s Hungary Meltdown Triggered Red Bull Staff Exodus to Rival Teams

The Red Bull garage is no stranger to pressure, but George Russell has dropped a bombshell, alleging that Max Verstappen’s fiery outburst at the Hungarian Grand Prix didn’t just shake the airwaves but also rattled the team’s foundation. According to Russell, Verstappen’s expletive-laden tirade over radio communications and subsequent clash with Lewis Hamilton triggered a startling reaction: an exodus of engineering talent seeking greener pastures.

Russell’s Explosive Allegations

Speaking ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Russell claimed that Verstappen’s conduct in Budapest had Red Bull engineers scrambling to escape what he described as a toxic atmosphere.

“After that race, 25 per cent of his engineering team were sending their CVs to Mercedes, McLaren, Aston Martin—anywhere but Red Bull,” said Russell. “They told us they couldn’t deal with a driver like that. It was chaos.”

Russell didn’t stop there. He painted Verstappen as a driver who struggles to keep his composure when his car is no longer invincible. Highlighting Red Bull’s performance decline post-Austria, he remarked, “Since Austria, Max has won the same number of races as six other drivers. He’s unbeatable only when his car is the best. The minute adversity hits, it’s a different story.”

Verstappen Fires Back

Not one to shy away from confrontation, Verstappen brushed off Russell’s claims, doubling down on his pride for the resilience shown by his team in a challenging season.

“Well, what I know is that the team doesn’t give up,” Verstappen said after clinching the Drivers’ Championship in Las Vegas. “There’s a lot of pressure on everyone, especially after last year’s dominant run. But our response to adversity has been remarkable. We’ve worked hard, learned from our mistakes, and stayed united.”

Verstappen also hinted that Red Bull’s recovery in the latter half of the season, including strides made post-Monza, reflected the team’s unyielding spirit.

A Fractured Red Bull or Resilient Giant?

The stark contrast between Russell’s fiery accusations and Verstappen’s praise for his team has cast a spotlight on the internal dynamics at Red Bull. With Verstappen securing his fourth world title despite Red Bull’s struggles, the narrative of whether the team is cracking under pressure or thriving through it remains open for interpretation.

As Red Bull looks to rebound in 2025, the focus will be on whether Verstappen can channel his fire into leadership—or if further internal unrest will give their rivals an edge. One thing is certain: in Formula 1, drama is just as inevitable as speed.
