Genesis Unleashes Fiery GMR-001 Hypercar: Dominating Le Mans and WEC in 2026!

Genesis is gearing up to dominate the racing world with its upcoming LMDh Hypercar set to conquer Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship in 2026. The highly anticipated Genesis Magma Racing GMR-001 hypercar has been unveiled in a fiery orange hue at the New York International Auto Show, showcasing a blend of cutting-edge design and top-notch performance features.

Designed by Genesis’ very own Luc Donckerwolke, the GMR-001 boasts a sleek exterior with distinctive lighting elements inspired by Genesis road cars. Beneath the striking bodywork lies a flat underbody plate aimed at enhancing aerodynamic efficiency, while integrated inlets contribute to improved thermal performance.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the GMR-001 is its powerhouse – a V8 engine expected to be combined with a hybrid system. Drawing from technology used in Hyundai’s rally car engines, the transition from a 1.6-liter inline four to a 3.2-liter V8 poses exciting challenges for the Genesis engineering team.

As development continues, adjustments to the design and powertrain are expected, a common occurrence in high-stakes racing projects. Genesis Magma Racing is already making waves in the European Le Mans Series, with plans for a WEC debut next year featuring seasoned drivers Jamie Chadwick and Mathys Jaubert.

Looking ahead, Genesis Magma Racing is set to make a grand entrance into the 2026 WEC season with drivers Andre Lotterer and Pipo Derani leading the charge. The team is also eyeing a foray into the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship in 2027, cementing its position as a formidable force in the world of motorsports.
