Gasly, a member of the French Alpine F1 team, expressed his excitement at joining FC Versailles, stating that he has always wanted to be involved in professional football. He sees this as the beginning of an incredible journey and is fully supporting Versailles. Gasly will become a co-owner of the club, alongside Alexandre Mulliez, grandson of the founder of the multinational retail group Auchan, and his partner Fabien Lazare. The exact percentage of Gasly’s ownership has not been disclosed by the club.
Founded in 1989, FC Versailles currently occupies the tenth position in the Championnat National, which is the third division of French football. Their home matches take place at the Stade de Montbauron, which can accommodate 6,200 spectators.
Mulliez, who took over the club with financial difficulties last year, expressed his belief that Gasly’s investment will be beneficial. Being a long-time fan of Formula 1, Mulliez recognizes the privilege of having Pierre by his side to help achieve their goals.
Gasly is currently competing in his seventh full season in Formula 1. Unfortunately, the Alpine A524, the car he is driving, has proven to be slow and heavy during the first two races of the season. Consequently, both Gasly and Esteban Ocon had to start the first race from the back of the grid and their race performance was disappointing as they did not have the necessary tools to fight. The same can be said about their performance in Saudi Arabia.
While Gasly hopes for success with his FC Versailles team, he will also witness the struggles of the Alpine F1 team, which is in a state of chaos and possibly going through the worst phase in its history, considering its previous identity as Renault.
FC Versailles is proud to welcome Pierre Gasly, a French Formula 1 driver, as their third co-owner. 🤝
