Gasly: Introduction of A524 vehicle will make start of 2024 season more challenging

Alpine wrapped up the 2023 Formula 1 season in sixth position in the Constructors’ Championship, trailing behind both fifth and seventh place in terms of points. This lackluster performance was attributed to their underperforming and uninspiring vehicle, the A523. Furthermore, the team underwent a reshuffling of management, resulting in the departure of CEO Laurent Rossi, team boss Otmar Szafnauer, and Sporting Director Alan Permane.

Despite these setbacks, Pierre Gasly, the team’s driver, eagerly anticipates the challenge posed by the new A524. The team has taken a daring approach with this car, as they have been striving to break free from the middle of the pack for quite some time. Although they managed to secure a few podium finishes in 2023, they were unable to achieve their desired results. Gasly shared his thoughts on the new car, expressing the need to embark on a fresh endeavor after realizing they had hit a plateau. While they anticipate a more challenging start to the year, they believe the development curve will steepen, ultimately leading to improved performance.

Gasly, who boasts seven years of experience in Formula 1, exudes confidence in his abilities and physical condition. He comprehends the areas he needs to focus on and feels prepared for the upcoming season. The team’s primary objective is to evaluate the performance of the new car and build upon it.

The 2024 season presents a significant challenge for Gasly and all other drivers, as it will consist of 24 races, the longest in the sport’s history. Gasly has been training in Dubai to ensure he is in peak condition for the demanding season. He expressed his enthusiasm and readiness for the intense competition, emphasizing the importance of building up physical capacity due to limited training time caused by extensive travel. Gasly mentioned his training sessions with fellow driver Yuki Tsunoda and how they motivated each other in the gym and enjoyed various activities together.

Gasly’s goals for the 2024 season include securing more podium finishes and striving for a second victory. As he enters his eighth season in Formula 1 and second with Alpine, he remains focused on delivering his best performance and contending for top positions. Gasly’s ultimate aim is to contribute to the team’s triumph and make the most of the car he has been provided.

In the 2023 season, Gasly finished 11th in the F1 Drivers’ Standings with 62 points, achieving his best result of a third-place finish in Zandvoort.
