Gasly details reasons for committing to an extended future in Formula 1 with Alpine.

Gasly reveals “enormous potential” at Alpine

Pierre Gasly clarified his choice to commit to the Alpine Formula 1 team long-term, stating that he sees “enormous potential” in the Enstone-Viry team.

The 2024 season for Alpine started in chaotic circumstances, arriving in Bahrain with possibly the slowest package.

However, three consecutive weekends of scoring points showed signs of improvement, and while Esteban Ocon chose to go elsewhere in 2025, Gasly opted to stay with the Anglo-French Alpine team for the next year and beyond.

The Frenchman explained that his decision to stay is based on what is to come, rather than the poor results that Alpine has had to face until its recent improvement.

“Definitely, it hasn’t been the results so far that I dreamed of for the team, but I definitely believe there is enormous potential,” said Gasly.

“I have noticed many positive signs happening within the team, not only on the track but also at the factory.

“I closely followed the development for 2026, which, for me, was the most crucial aspect for my next contract because we are entering a new regulation, and it was a continuous, very open conversation, and the team has clearly shown from day one a great interest and desire to work with me, which is of great importance to me, to work with people who really strive to get you and want you to be part of the project.”

Gasly highlighted that the CEO of the Renault Group, Luca de Meo, and Alpine Team Principal, Bruno Famin, played a significant role in persuading him to stay with the team, while evaluating how the team reacted at the factory regarding technical hiring after the poor start to the season.

David Sanchez now leads a three-pronged technical structure, and the controversial figure Flavio Briatore has returned to Enstone as Executive Consultant.

However, rumors have been circulating that de Meo could sell the team or consider abandoning their plans to produce a power unit for 2026 and instead become an F1 customer team.

Gasly dismissed these rumors and stated that Renault and de Meo’s commitment is unwavering.

“I don’t fully understand the stories about Renault’s commitment because there are a lot of news out there, but I have regular conversations with Luca almost weekly, and it has been very clear, and I believe it has been very clear in the media that his goal in F1 is to take the team forward, and he is 100% committed to Alpine,” said Gasly.

“So there has never really been a question from my side, and I know the level of commitment the brand has to Renault, to Alpine, and I also know how much they believe in the team and how much I believe in the people we have in Enstone and Viry.”
