Gary Anderson analisa a primeira grande atualização da Red Bull para a temporada de F1 de 2024.

Red Bull has revealed its first major update of 2024 at the Japanese Grand Prix in a tabloid format. The team has made significant changes to the car concept for this season, but the development path they are following is surprisingly similar to last year. In 2023, Red Bull focused on minimizing performance losses caused by the car’s cooling requirements. They made significant advances in refining the sidepods packaging in Baku and Budapest. This year, Red Bull is focusing on similar areas. They understand that any airflow used to cool the car does not contribute to downforce generation. However, optimizing entry and exit positions is not as simple as reducing the size of holes in body surfaces. This requires identifying surfaces with positive pressure to optimize the entry position and surfaces with low pressure to optimize the exit position. Red Bull has already used techniques like the ‘S-duct’ and ‘F-duct’ to improve airflow, but these have been banned. Optimizing the entire airflow structure between entry and exit positions is crucial, including the radiator cooling cores and their ducts. The size of the entry and exit areas should be proportional to the cooling core area to ensure reasonable airflow. The new horizontal sidepod inlet from Red Bull appears wider and shallower compared to its previous design. The vertical body inlet is still present but is partially obscured in the launch image. Red Bull has reduced the entry area, which requires finding alternative ways to replace the lost area. This could involve improving the efficiency of internal ducts and the radiator cooling core. By raising the lower section of the radiator inlet body, Red Bull aims to improve the consistency of floor cleaning devices running along the floor edge. The team has also made adjustments to the headrest area to redirect airflow and reduce discomfort for the driver. Overall, Red Bull’s meticulous attention to these areas demonstrates their commitment to gaining a marginal advantage on the track.
