After several days of showing glimpses, Ferrari revealed this Wednesday the special livery for the Formula 1 Miami GP – the first of three rounds of the season in the United States of America.
The SF-24s of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc maintain the traditional red as the base and dominant color, but add two shades of blue – a light Azzurro La Plata and a dark Azurro Dino – in areas such as the wheels, hood, mirrors, wings, sides, and halo. Also new are the various logos of the new partner of the Scuderia, HP.
This livery, which harks back to Ferrari’s past, is also a celebration of the debut of the new main sponsor. Although the Italian manufacturer became popular with the color red, this is not the first time it has competed with shades of blue.
In fact, in 1952 Alberto Ascari’s Ferrari 375 Special for the Indianapolis 500 had a blue nose, while in the 1960s several drivers wore blue racing suits, including Niki Lauda in his first year – just like Leclerc and Sainz will do at the Miami GP.
The same happened sporadically in history, and in 1964 NART entered the Ferraris in the last two Grand Prix of the year after a controversy between the Scuderia and F1. The American team had their cars in white and blue, and it was in those colors that John Surtees secured his title.
