Ferrari frustrada: Avaliando posição após derrotas da McLaren

At the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League, Ferrari experienced frustration after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Despite upgrading their Formula 1 car, it finished in third place, behind Red Bull and McLaren. The highly anticipated update was not meant to be a revolutionary version of the car, but rather an improvement to bring Ferrari closer to Red Bull. However, the defeat to McLaren and the inability to beat Red Bull was disappointing. It wasn’t the result itself that bothered Ferrari, but rather the circumstances that led to third place.

Charles Leclerc, Ferrari’s driver, expressed his dissatisfaction with finishing in third place. He acknowledged the importance of being on the podium in Imola, but stated that he always strives to be in first place. Leclerc believed that the missed opportunity occurred during qualifying and that they would analyze what went wrong.

Team boss Fred Vasseur shared a similar sentiment. Although he recognized the progress made by Ferrari, he felt frustrated because he believed that if they had performed better in qualifying, they could have secured a 1-2 result in the race. Vasseur emphasized that their mistake was in qualifying, not in the race itself.

Leclerc admitted that the engine strategy in Imola was not as effective as McLaren and Red Bull’s strategies. He felt that the battery usage was wrong, causing him to lose time on the straight during qualifying. Leclerc believed that track position was crucial, especially on a track like Imola, and his starting position in third place cost him a better result in the race.

Vasseur, however, did not fully agree with Leclerc’s assessment of the engine strategy. He acknowledged they needed to change their approach, but downplayed its importance. Vasseur believed that Verstappen’s ride with Nico Hulkenberg played a more significant role in the race outcome.

Despite Ferrari’s upgrades, they still struggled to keep up with the pace of McLaren and Red Bull on a single lap. Leclerc and Vasseur felt that being stuck behind Norris for a long period affected Leclerc’s race pace. They believed that with clean air and better pace and tire management, Leclerc could have maintained a consistent and impressive performance.

Vasseur never expected the upgrade to be a game-changer, but rather an improvement in the overall performance of the car. While it had an impact across the car, it was not enough to surpass McLaren and Red Bull. Ferrari still needs to fine-tune the car setup to maximize its performance throughout the weekend.

Carlos Sainz, Leclerc’s teammate, also faced challenges during the race weekend. He trailed behind Leclerc and struggled with engine usage issues and aerodynamic-related problems. Sainz expressed his disappointment with his performance and acknowledged the need to investigate the issues further.

Leclerc mentioned that assessing the car’s performance at Imola was difficult due to the track’s characteristics, especially the importance of riding the kerbs. He believed the upgrade met expectations, but it would take a few more races to fully optimize its potential.

With Red Bull and McLaren continuously improving their cars, Ferrari’s gain with the update keeps them in the competition. Vasseur emphasized the need to accelerate development and ensure that the updates they bring to the car are effective. Another update is expected in the next two or three races, and Ferrari’s success in Monaco and Canada will depend on their ability to optimize their setup and extract the maximum performance from the updated car.

Overall, Ferrari’s updated car has shown promise, but there is still room for improvement. The battle at the front of the grid is now intense, with factors such as team execution, track characteristics, and weekend circumstances playing a significant role in determining the outcome.
