Dos GT aos Hypercar, o fim de um percurso de sucesso de António Félix da Costa no WEC

António Félix da Costa announced before the 8 Hours of Bahrain that he will be absent from the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2024 to focus on Formula E. It is the end of a chapter for now, with the promise of a future return.

The Portuguese driver’s debut in endurance racing dates back to 2017, when he competed in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring with BMW Team Schnitzer. One year later, he was with JOTA Sport at the 24 Hours of Daytona, and also started his journey with BMW in the WEC – developing the M8 GTE project from the beginning.

His first full season in the WEC was in 2018/2019 with the Bavarian manufacturer, with the highlight being a second place finish at the 6 Hours of Fuji. After ending his association with BMW, he made the move to LMP2 in the following season, staying with JOTA Sport until the end of 2022, always driving an Oreca. He consistently finished on the podium in the championship category, during a period in which he achieved three class victories – including at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2022 – and the LMP2 title in 2022.

With JOTA Sport’s focus on Hypercars with the Porsche 963 LMDh, Félix da Costa – contractually linked to the manufacturer – also made the move to Hypercars. His debut was at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, where he finished in sixth place – his best result to date, later matched in Fuji.
