The GAC Group, one of the five largest automobile manufacturers in China, has just arrived on the national market with the Aion V, an electric SUV, the brand’s first global model, with a launch price starting at €29,900 plus VAT.

The arrival on the national market is facilitated by the JAP Group, which now includes the new electric model in its portfolio, presenting dimensions of 4.60 meters in length, 1.87 m in width, and 1.68 m in height, positioning it as a rival to models such as the Atto3 from BYD, the Peugeot e-3008, or even the Renault Scenic E-Tech or the Kia EV3.

Motor and Battery

The Aion V is equipped with an electric motor mounted on the front axle that delivers 204 hp and a maximum torque of 210 Nm, powered by a CALB lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with 75.26 kWh, which announces a range of up to 510 km in the combined WLTP cycle. These figures allow for a maximum speed of 166 km/h and a consumption of 16.5 kWh/100km.

In terms of charging, the Aion V’s battery allows for alternating current (AC) charging of up to 11 kW and direct current (DC) charging of up to 180 kW, announcing a charge for 370 km of range in just 15 minutes.

Visual and Robust Stance

Aesthetically, the Aion V features a design that combines geometric shapes with a luminous signature in the shape of a “Cyger Dragon Claw.” The rectangular headlights highlight the brand’s identity, while the vertically shaped taillights reinforce the model’s image.

In profile, the elevated lines, the flush door handles, and the standard 19” wheels stand out, reinforcing the robust stance of the SUV.

Comfort and technology

The interior, however, is the biggest highlight of this Aion V, with premium finishes, a fixed panoramic roof with an electric curtain, a central screen of 14.6” that allows control of most of the SUV’s settings, as well as climate control and the audio system, and an 8.8” screen for the instrument panel, installed in front of a heated steering wheel with buttons for some functions, including the voice assistant.

The highlight of the cabin is the ample space to comfortably accommodate passengers, allowing the Aion V to redefine comfort by featuring a rear seat that can recline up to 137º, in addition to having a modular adjustment of 27º + 20º progressive with 18 different positions and easily accommodating three adults. Furthermore, the front seats come with electric adjustment, memory and massage functions, heating, and ventilation, which is always quite convenient for warmer days.

Also noteworthy is an induction charger that allows charging two compatible mobile phones, smart ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, and a refrigerator installed in the armrest of the top-of-the-line version, with a capacity of 6.6 liters that can be filled with drinks and food, along with a tray table for rear seat passengers, installed on the back of the front seats.

In terms of storage, the Aion V features a trunk with a capacity of 427 liters, enough to accommodate the family for travel.

Safety

Another area where the new electric SUV stands out is safety, as the Aion V is equipped with seven airbags, including front, side, and knee airbags for the driver, along with a central airbag between the front seats.
In addition, the list of driving assistance and safety systems is extensive, highlighting the Integrated Cruise Control Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Detection, among others.

Behind the wheel

In this first and brief contact with the Aion V, it was possible to realize that the interior space of the new SUV is truly surprising, with dimensions comparable to those of SUVs in higher segments. Furthermore, the soundproofing of the cabin enhances onboard comfort.
Sitting behind the wheel, it is easy to find the driving position, benefiting from an electric seat that is easy to adjust and has generous lumbar support. The steering wheel, with a good grip, allows for smooth control of the Aion V, which shows all its power whenever we press the accelerator hard.
Moreover, the maneuverability and ease of driving in an urban environment are quite comfortable, just as one would expect from a model designed for families.

Prices and versions

Available on the national market with two trim levels, Premium and Luxury, the Aion V offers an 8-year or 200,000-kilometer warranty for the battery and electric motor.
As for prices, the entry-level Premium version costs €40,990 including VAT, while the top-of-the-range Luxury variant is priced at €42,490.
