Ferrari dominated the Australian Formula 1 GP, achieving a one-two finish for the first time in a long time. Carlos Sainz was the winner ahead of Charles Leclerc, in a race where Red Bull had problems – Max Verstappen retired with a car failure, something that hadn’t happened in two years.
In an interview with RAI, Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur emphasized that the primary goal is to win the constructors’ championship: ‘This is the goal. But also to fight for the drivers’ title, although this year it might be a bit early for that. But we will see’.
Despite Red Bull and Verstappen’s clear dominance in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the French team boss believes that the new Ferrari car is a clear step forward: ‘The new car is easier to drive, easier to understand its behavior, doesn’t give surprises, wears the tires less, and allows us to attack’.
That being said, Vasseur does not get carried away by euphoria, being aware that not all weekends will be like the one in Australia: ‘Weekends will not all be like Melbourne. What I ask from the team is to not make mistakes, improve one step at a time, and maintain the same determination’.
