Fred Vasseur replies to Fernando Alonso’s after he insinuated that Ferrari was the ‘team to beat’ in next 3 races

Frédéric Vasseur has praised Sainz for his impressive performance during the first half of the 2024 season

As the 2024 Formula 1 season unfolds, the Fred Vasseur-led Ferrari team has experienced a series of highs and lows, struggling to find consistent form. Meanwhile, Aston Martin, a team that showed remarkable promise in 2023, has seen a sharp decline in performance this year, trailing behind rivals Ferrari and Mercedes. Despite their own struggles, Fernando Alonso recently claimed that Ferrari would soon become the “team to beat,” a statement that has not sat well with Ferrari’s top brass.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur was quick to address Alonso’s optimistic remarks. Vasseur, who has been steering the Italian squad through a turbulent season, firmly rejected the notion that Ferrari needed external validation of their status on the grid. He emphasized that, regardless of Alonso’s comments, Ferrari’s approach to the remaining races would remain steadfast and focused.

Vasseur also pointed out that Ferrari had shown strength at circuits like Monza, Singapore, and Baku in the previous season. He is confident that the team’s performance at the upcoming races, especially at Monza with its favorable short curves, will be solid. However, Vasseur tempered his optimism by acknowledging that Ferrari still faces a significant gap to the leading teams—Mercedes, McLaren, and Red Bull.

Reflecting on the recent Dutch Grand Prix, where Ferrari only managed a top-five finish, Vasseur admitted that the team is “still very far away” from matching the top-tier competitors. He stressed that closing this performance gap and overcoming rivals would be no easy task, and certainly not “a walk in the park.”

Despite Vasseur’s positive outlook, Ferrari’s struggles have been evident throughout the season. The team must continue to push development efforts if they hope to challenge McLaren and Red Bull, who have pulled ahead in the championship standings. With crucial races ahead, Ferrari faces a defining moment in their 2024 campaign, where they must either rise to the occasion or risk being left behind.
