Ferrari Principal Vasseur Expresses Frustration After Leclerc’s Error in Qualifying

The Ferrari team had a bitter Saturday in Canada, falling short of their potential, according to team principal Fred Vasseur. Despite hopes for a strong qualifying session to quiet the critics, the day did not go as planned for the red team. The SF-25 showed promise but was unable to secure a top spot on the grid, with McLaren and the Russell-Verstappen duo leading the pack.

The Error by Leclerc

Charles Leclerc’s mistake on his final lap in Q3 dashed Ferrari’s hopes for a front-row start, leaving him in a disappointing eighth position. Vasseur acknowledged the frustration, stating, “Leclerc? There is certainly a bit of frustration because up to turn 5-6, he was a tenth quicker than Russell, so finishing eighth is a shame.” The team principal pointed out that Leclerc may have been affected by the car in front of him, losing concentration. Despite this setback, Vasseur highlighted the positives of the session, noting Leclerc’s strong recovery from a challenging Friday and his ability to fight for pole position.

Looking Ahead

Vasseur also analyzed Hamilton’s fifth position, saying, “He had a good session; now we need to put it all together for tomorrow.” The focus now shifts to the race, where Ferrari will once again aim for a comeback. Vasseur emphasized the team’s determination, stating, “We can overtake, the pace is there. We need to push to climb the ranks.” The stage is set for an exciting race day as Ferrari looks to make up ground and showcase their potential on the track.
