Fred Vasseur Hails Max Verstappen’s Grit as the Key to His Fourth World Championship

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has unveiled a fascinating insight into what he believes was the defining factor behind Max Verstappen’s incredible fourth Formula 1 World Championship victory. Despite a tumultuous 2024 season marked by challenges with Red Bull’s RB20 car, Verstappen managed to deliver a stellar performance, showcasing his grit and skill under less-than-ideal circumstances.

“The Hardest Title Yet”: Vasseur on Verstappen’s 2024 Triumph

Vasseur didn’t hold back in praising Verstappen’s ability to excel, even when his car wasn’t the dominant force on the grid. According to the Ferrari team principal, Verstappen’s mastery in fighting through the midfield was a game-changer.

“I think this title has been the most difficult for him. It’s easy when you start at the front and have the pace to stay there, but when you’re forced to fight in the middle of the pack and get certain results, it’s incredible.”

This season, Verstappen frequently found himself starting races from positions as low as P17 and still managed to deliver podiums and wins. Vasseur’s acknowledgment underlines the Dutchman’s relentless determination and adaptability, traits that have cemented his place among Formula 1’s all-time greats.

Verstappen’s Manager Echoes the Sentiment

Verstappen’s manager also weighed in, emphasizing the unique challenges of this season. Red Bull had entered the year expecting dominance, but an inconsistent RB20 disrupted their plans.

“We were supposed to roll through the year dominant again, but in the end, it was different. But I’m super proud and super satisfied, Max did it himself. The car was tricky and there were some hiccups in it, so Max gave everything. I think this title is more deserved than ever by him.”

The manager’s comments highlight Verstappen’s ability to rise above technical setbacks, further reinforcing his reputation as a driver who thrives under pressure.

A Tale of Two Championships: Drivers vs. Constructors

While Verstappen has sealed the drivers’ title with a commanding 403 points, Red Bull is struggling in the constructors’ championship. Their inconsistent second driver, Sergio Perez, has been a major factor in the team losing its lead to McLaren.

  • Current Standings: McLaren leads with 608 points, while Red Bull trails at 555.
  • Perez’s Struggles: The Mexican driver’s inability to deliver consistent results has been a thorn in Red Bull’s side. His poor qualifying performances and lackluster race pace have left Verstappen shouldering the team’s success.

The Road Ahead: A Fight for Redemption

With two races remaining, Verstappen’s focus shifts to salvaging Red Bull’s constructors’ campaign. The team’s 2024 struggles highlight the immense value of Verstappen’s contributions, but without significant improvements from Perez, their chances of reclaiming the top spot seem slim.

For Verstappen, however, this season’s triumph stands as a testament to his unparalleled resilience and determination. As Vasseur aptly put it, this fourth title may very well be his most impressive yet, a true marker of a driver at the peak of his powers.
