Ferrari in Crisis: Fred Vasseur’s Future Uncertain Amid Team Struggles

Amidst swirling rumors surrounding Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur’s future, former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher has stepped in to dispel the speculations, claiming Vasseur is not solely to blame for Ferrari’s underperformance in the 2025 F1 season. Schumacher labeled the rumors as “not true,” pointing out that Ferrari is grappling with a broader issue of inefficiencies within the team, leading to a lackluster start to the current campaign.

Following a disappointing loss to McLaren in the 2024 Constructors’ championship, Ferrari aimed to bounce back strongly in 2025. However, the team has struggled to make an impact, securing only one Sprint victory and three podium finishes so far, languishing in third place in the Constructors’ standings, a significant 191 points behind McLaren.

Reports from the Italian media hint at Vasseur’s tenuous position as Ferrari’s team principal, a role he has held since 2023. Speculations intensified when rumors emerged of Ferrari approaching Red Bull’s Christian Horner as a potential replacement. While Horner dismissed the claims in an exclusive interview, the uncertainty surrounding Vasseur’s future persists.

Schumacher, a veteran of the sport with six grand prix victories, emphasized that the issues plaguing Ferrari extend beyond Vasseur. He suggested Andreas Seidl, the former McLaren team principal, as a potential successor if a change in leadership is deemed necessary. However, Schumacher stressed that Seidl would require a solid support structure to drive Ferrari’s resurgence effectively.

Vasseur, visibly frustrated by the ongoing speculation, called for an end to the rumors during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. He expressed concerns over the internal disruption caused by the rumors and the impact on the morale of the team members. Vasseur acknowledged the challenges but remained resolute in his commitment to steering Ferrari back to success.

As the uncertainty looms over Ferrari and Fred Vasseur’s future, the Scuderia faces a crucial juncture in their quest to reclaim their position at the pinnacle of Formula 1. Will Vasseur retain his role, or is a leadership overhaul imminent to revitalize Ferrari’s championship aspirations? The F1 world watches with bated breath as the drama unfolds within the iconic Italian team.
