Franz Tost completed his career as team principal at the Abu Dhabi GP, stepping down from his position at AlphaTauri – where he will be succeeded by Laurent Mekies. However, he will remain within the Red Bull structure as a consultant.
This was announced by Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko to Sky Deutschland: ‘He will be a reserve consultant for the years 2024 and 2025, so that if the people at AlphaTauri need him, they can contact him. But he is free for all other activities that do not conflict with Formula 1. After 18 years, he deserves the fact that, as a Tyrolean, he can finally ski in peace’.
Marko also revealed that Tost received a special gift from one of the Red Bull owners, Mark Matschitz: ‘He was presented with a symbolic [AlphaTauri] car in the form of a model, but Franz will receive a complete car. He is tough, but has a soft heart’.
