Franco Morbidelli Slapped with Second Grid Penalty at British GP MotoGP 2025
Italian MotoGP rider Franco Morbidelli, representing the VR46 Ducati team, has been hit with a major setback ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The racer has been handed a three-place grid penalty following an incident during the practice session on Friday. The penalty was a result of Morbidelli impeding fellow Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi from Aprilia during the session at Turns 12-13, a crucial part of the Silverstone circuit.
This is not the first time Morbidelli has been penalized this season. Earlier at the Thailand Grand Prix, he was found guilty of a similar offense involving Francesco Bagnaia, leading to another three-place grid penalty. Despite showing promise by securing the second-fastest time in FP1 at Silverstone, Morbidelli’s day took a turn for the worse when he suffered a fall during practice. This incident, coupled with his 15th-fastest time, prevented him from advancing directly to Q2, unlike the other Ducati riders.
Although facing challenges at the British GP, Morbidelli’s strong performances earlier in the season have placed him fourth in the current world championship standings. The grid penalty adds to the pressure on Morbidelli as he aims to bounce back from this setback and continue his pursuit of success in the MotoGP 2025 season.
