Franco Colapinto on Red Bull’s Radar for 2025: A Star in the Making?

Rising Formula 1 star, Franco Colapinto, made headlines in 2024 with his outstanding entry onto the grid before transitioning to Alpine as a reserve. However, his recent social media activity has sparked intrigue as he voiced frustration over his conspicuous absence from the latest installment of Drive to Survive, only to quickly delete the post.

Colapinto, who stepped in to replace Logan Sargeant at Williams for the tail end of the 2024 season, expressed his puzzlement as to why his numerous recordings for the series never made it to the final cut. This Argentine prodigy, the first from his homeland to grace the grid in over twenty years, had made a noteworthy debut that strangely did not feature in the recent episodes of the behind-the-scenes F1 docuseries.

While Colapinto’s name did make it into a few commentary montages, his fascinating journey to the top tier of motorsport remained largely untold. This omission was all the more surprising considering the series’ focus on various aspects of the season, including the internal probe on Christian Horner at Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton’s big move to Ferrari, Daniel Ricciardo’s departure, and Carlos Sainz’s search for a new team, among others.

The deleted post on Colapinto’s social media platform that questioned his lack of airtime on the popular series has added a layer of intrigue to his transition from Williams to Alpine in the off-season. This move was hailed by Williams’ team principal, James Vowles, as the “best opportunity” for the 21-year-old to secure a race seat, possibly even as early as 2025.

Despite the limited screen time, Colapinto’s remarkable journey to Formula 1 has made him a beloved figure in Argentina, where his early exploits are celebrated. He now joins the likes of Paul Aron, Ryo Hirakawa, and Kush Maini on Alpine’s reserve roster.

While the producers may have chosen not to feature Colapinto’s rise in this season’s ten episodes, given the packed driver market and other noteworthy events such as Oliver Bearman’s Ferrari debut in Saudi Arabia, this decision has undoubtedly added to the mystique surrounding this promising young driver.
