Franco Colapinto's Fiery Encounter with Flavio Briatore Shakes Up Formula 1!
In a jaw-dropping revelation from the latest season of Netflix’s “Drive to Survive,” Alpine Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto finds himself at the center of a stormy confrontation with the notorious Flavio Briatore. The tension reached boiling point during a pivotal moment that has sent shockwaves through the motorsport community.
After stepping into the high-pressure role of second driver, replacing the struggling Jack Doohan midway through the 2025 season, Colapinto faced immense scrutiny competing alongside the seasoned Pierre Gasly. The second episode of the eighth season dives headfirst into the struggles of Alpine’s second driver, showcasing a gut-wrenching exchange between Colapinto, Briatore, and Gasly that left viewers on the edge of their seats.
“I’m going to sum up the situation. We need to understand that we haven’t been that great until now. Let’s say that, between the two of you, Pierre has been better. Now we have to get some points,” Briatore bluntly stated, setting the stage for a confrontation that would rattle any rookie.
Colapinto, determined to show his mettle, countered with, “We can try something on my car,” only to be abruptly cut off by Briatore’s fiery retort: “I don’t give a s***, OK? I decide what I’m doing. You are the problem, you have to understand. You have to improve your performance. That’s essential.”
This explosive moment has ignited discussions among fans and pundits alike, as Colapinto prepares to face the challenges of the upcoming 2026 season, beginning with the Australian Grand Prix.
In a candid media interaction, Colapinto addressed the heated exchange, revealing his perspective on the drama. “No, but I heard, yeah. I haven't watched it, to be honest. I don't really consume that too much,” he admitted. “Especially when you drive and you're in the paddock, you live and know everything that happens. It's a great show, and it brought a lot of fans to the sport, and for that, we are all very grateful with that extra amount of people that kind of became fans after watching the series.”
Attempting to clarify the intensity of the moment, the young Argentine reflected on Briatore’s role in his career: “Flav has been, with me, very helpful in every way. He gave me a great opportunity, and I try to maximise it. I don't even know when it was filmed, but probably he was right at the time, you know? When he shouts at me, there is normally a reason for it.”
Briatore’s reputation as a formidable leader in the racing world is undeniable. Colapinto acknowledges this, stating, “He’s been a great leader, he's a great businessman, he's very successful in every business he's been at, and he manages to get the people to perform. Sometimes in a different way to how others do, but it's all great learning.”
Understanding the immense pressure that envelops the world of Formula 1, Colapinto adds, “It's very hard for people to understand the amount of pressure also everyone is under in a race week, in a racing team. Not only the drivers are under that amount of pressure, and it's part of the sport, I guess.”
As the Formula 1 community gears up for the new season, all eyes will be on Colapinto and Briatore. Will this fiery exchange spur Colapinto to rise to the occasion, or will it haunt him as the season unfolds? One thing is certain: the drama within the Alpine team is far from over, and fans can expect a season full of twists, turns, and electrifying performances on the track!
