Colapinto Shines on Day One of Barcelona Testing: “Alpine? Fantastic Work!”
In an electrifying start to his Formula 1 journey, Argentine driver Franco Colapinto has made waves by clocking the third-fastest time on the inaugural day of testing in Barcelona, piloting the sleek Alpine A526. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as the team prepared meticulously for this moment, and Colapinto couldn’t hide his enthusiasm. “It feels amazing to embark on my first F1 pre-season with a new car,” he expressed, beaming with pride.
The young talent noted the immense effort put forth by the Alpine team, stating, “They did a fantastic job getting everything ready for the first day of shakedown here in Barcelona.” With an impressive 60 laps completed, Colapinto emphasized the importance of this early phase, filled with new challenges and learnings. “There’s so much to absorb during this time of year; it’s refreshing to see so much positivity and commitment in the garage. Everyone is giving their all,” he added, projecting a fierce determination as the team looks forward to additional testing days ahead.
Alpine’s Managing Director, Steve Nielsen, also praised the team’s swift execution. “A huge shoutout to everyone, both on the track and back at the factory, for getting the car on track almost immediately when the green light flashed at the end of the pit lane on the very first day of shakedown,” he remarked. After Pierre Gasly’s filming day in Silverstone last week, it was Colapinto’s turn to take the wheel, marking a significant step in the team’s season preparations.
Despite the exhilarating atmosphere, Nielsen candidly acknowledged the realities of a new car. “It was a typical first day of testing, filled with various programs and system checks. We encountered a few minor issues that slowed us down, which is to be expected with a completely new vehicle,” he stated. The team took a strategic approach, opting to limit some of the testing sessions to ensure that all systems and processes were functioning correctly.
With two additional days of testing on the horizon, the team remains focused on maximizing their time on the track. “We’ll make decisions based on several factors, including weather and conditions, as we strive to learn more about the entire package,” Nielsen concluded.
As the racing world watches closely, Colapinto’s promising start hints at an exhilarating season ahead for both the driver and the Alpine team. With optimism in the air and the roar of engines to come, the quest for glory in Formula 1 has officially begun.
