After giving the Mercedes W14 to Frederik Vesti in the first free practice session of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton only took part in FP2 in Yas Marina. He set the eighth fastest time and, despite having good sensations, he was also frustrated with the long interruptions that greatly limited track time.
The seven-time world champion stated in a statement: ‘FP2 was very frustrating for me, and I suspect for all the drivers as well. We had very little running at the end, and also a lack of consecutive laps, which is what we want to do on a Friday’.
Hamilton was satisfied with the laps he completed, but also emphasized the need for improvement: ‘In the laps we did, the car felt good. The grip seemed good and there are some things we will look at tonight to see what we can improve. It was a shame we didn’t have more running, but we will try to make up for it tomorrow in FP3’.
