In the wake of extreme flash floods across Spain, particularly in the Valencia region, FIA Formula E is assessing the state of the Circuit Ricardo Tormo as it prepares for the upcoming official testing session. The region saw a year’s worth of rain fall within just eight hours, hitting the nearby town of Chiva especially hard and tragically resulting in the deaths of 51 people. Local authorities have activated an emergency hotline (9006 5112) to assist those affected by the unprecedented deluge.
In response to the emergency, Formula E released a statement expressing sympathy and concern for those impacted by the severe weather, adding that they are collaborating with local authorities to ensure safety and assess damages at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. The main access road to the circuit is currently impassable, damaged by a burst river bank that has left it unusable for vehicles.
Formula E confirmed that while four staff members stayed overnight at the track for precautionary reasons, they remain safe and have been able to access the circuit on foot. So far, inspections of the track itself have shown no signs of significant damage, though assessments of the garages and freight are still underway. Alternative access routes are being explored to ensure teams can reach the circuit safely.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates in due course,” the Formula E statement concluded, underscoring the priority of ensuring safe and smooth operations for the upcoming testing session.
