Formula E set to explode with up to 19 races and thrilling second US round in 2026-27!

Formula E is gearing up for a groundbreaking leap into the future, with ambitions to launch a staggering 18 to 19 races in the highly anticipated 2026-27 season featuring the revolutionary Gen4 cars. As the current 2025-26 season races toward its conclusion, boasting a record 17 races across 11 venues, the stakes have never been higher. The addition of cities like Madrid and Sanya has electrified fans, even as Jakarta exits the lineup.

With the Gen4 vehicles set to be more powerful and larger than their predecessors, Formula E is not just racing toward a new era; it’s meticulously crafting the future of motorsport. Behind the scenes, discussions are underway with various promoters to ensure that every track is primed for thrilling, safe competition. The championship plans to present the finalized calendar for approval to the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council in March, just a month before unveiling the Gen4 car to the public in a mega launch event that promises to dazzle fans and stakeholders alike.

Alberto Longo, Formula E’s chief championship officer, hinted at the exciting growth trajectory, stating, “If I have to tell you a figure, I would most likely go for 18, 18 to 19 races. That would mean 12 to 13 venues.” This ambitious expansion is echoed by Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds, who boldly claims, “I've always said we aim to add at least one race a year out to 2030, and if we do that, we'll have between 20 and 22 races by the time we get to 2030.” This aggressive plan positions Formula E as a major contender in the world of motorsport, with a vision firmly set on the future.

The U.S. market is a focal point of this expansion, with Formula E eyeing a second race location alongside Miami, which is expected to return to the calendar following its successful debut earlier this year. Longo has expressed optimism about the prospects, stating, “I would say we are 70-80% there, so most likely it will happen,” confirming that discussions are ongoing with six potential U.S. cities. Dodds reinforced this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of North America in the series' plans: “A second race in the US is very realistic.”

The championship's strategy includes exploring both street circuits and permanent tracks across North America, with cities such as Toronto, Phoenix, Atlanta, Detroit, Denver, Austin, and Laguna Seca all on the radar. “The beauty of the US is it's got so many good locations, we're looking at lots of them,” Dodds revealed. The excitement builds as they narrow down their options, with Miami poised to secure a permanent spot, thanks to valuable insights gained from the inaugural race.

As Formula E accelerates toward its ambitious future, the motorsport world watches closely. With a commitment to innovation, safety, and thrilling racing, this championship is not just evolving; it's revolutionizing the landscape of competitive racing. Buckle up—this is just the beginning!
