Formula E Relocates Pre-Season Test from Valencia to Madrid Amid Tragic Floods

In the wake of the devastating floods that have tragically claimed over 150 lives across Valencia and its neighboring areas, Formula E has announced the postponement and relocation of its four-day pre-season test initially scheduled at Circuit Ricardo Tormo. Despite the circuit itself remaining largely intact, severe damage to access roads has made it challenging to reach, prompting a move to Circuito del Jarama near Madrid.

In a statement issued Thursday, Formula E expressed deep sympathy for those affected by the flooding. “Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by these terrible events. Following consultation with local authorities, the FIA, and our partners at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, we have chosen not to proceed with our pre-season test in Valencia,” read the statement. “It is important not to draw attention away from or use resources that could better support the community in this critical time.”

Scheduled to take place November 5-8 at Circuito del Jarama, the test will still include Formula E’s inaugural all-female driver event on the morning of the final day. The decision came after extensive collaboration with logistics and operational teams working to make this swift transition possible.

Formula E highlighted the special connection the sport has with Valencia, acknowledging its role as a consistent part of the calendar since 2017 and the location of its new operations base. “Valencia holds a special place in our hearts, almost like a second home for us. We are committed to assisting in the city’s recovery and conducting our Madrid test with the utmost sensitivity.”

As Formula E prepares for the season ahead, the move underscores a commitment to both community support and logistical adaptability in the face of unforeseen circumstances.
