Formula 2’s High-Stakes Finale: Bortoleto, Hadjar, and Aron’s Epic Championship Showdown in Abu Dhabi

The stage is set for one of the most thrilling finales in Formula 2 history as championship leader Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar, and outsider Paul Aron prepare for an electrifying title decider at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. With only 25.5 points separating the top three drivers, the Yas Marina Circuit is ready to host a race that could rewrite the F2 record books.

Bortoleto vs. Hadjar: A Battle for the Ages

Brazilian sensation Gabriel Bortoleto leads the championship by the slimmest of margins—just half a point—over Isack Hadjar heading into the final round. The Campos Racing driver, bound for Formula 1 with Sauber in 2025, has shown remarkable consistency throughout the season, turning in crucial performances like his last-to-first drive at Monza. Yet, a costly penalty in Qatar’s Feature Race has thrown the title fight wide open.

Meanwhile, Hadjar, a Red Bull junior, has clawed his way back into contention with four stunning victories, including dominant wins at Silverstone and Spa. Despite a shaky start to the season with two DNFs in the opening rounds, Hadjar has showcased resilience and a fierce determination to battle his way to the top.

“I’ve done all the hard work already. Now it’s about enjoying the final weekend,” Hadjar said, radiating confidence ahead of the decider.

Paul Aron: The Dark Horse

Estonian driver Paul Aron threw his name into the mix with a victory in Qatar, giving him an outside chance at the title. Sitting 25.5 points behind Bortoleto, Aron needs a near-perfect weekend—and missteps from his rivals—to pull off an extraordinary comeback. Though the odds are slim, Aron’s recent form proves he can never be counted out.

Key Storylines Heading into Abu Dhabi

  1. The Consistency Factor
Bortoleto has turned his season around with remarkable reliability, scoring points in 18 of the last 20 races. In a championship that often rewards consistency, his approach has been pivotal.
  2. Hadjar’s Firepower
Hadjar’s four wins highlight his raw speed and racecraft, but his early-season woes mean every point in Abu Dhabi is critical. His aggressive style could be both an asset and a liability in the final showdown.
  3. Aron’s Momentum
While Aron’s chances are slim, his win in Qatar shows he thrives under pressure. A bold strategy or unexpected chaos on track could thrust him into the spotlight.
  4. The Mental Game
Both Bortoleto and Hadjar have displayed mental resilience throughout the season. However, with a title on the line, the pressure to deliver could expose cracks in their armor.

What’s at Stake?

For Bortoleto, securing the championship would cap off a season defined by resilience and poise, cementing his credentials before his Formula 1 debut. For Hadjar, victory would validate his Red Bull junior status and set him up as one of the brightest young stars in motorsport. And for Aron, an improbable triumph would be a storybook ending to a breakout season.

“It’s going to be tough for me and Isack, racing knowing we need to beat each other,” Bortoleto admitted. “But it’s going to be very cool, and we’re going to make history in F2.”

The Final Showdown Awaits

With just one race left to decide it all, the Formula 2 title fight promises to deliver drama, heartbreak, and unforgettable moments. As the sun sets over Yas Marina, three young drivers will chase their dreams, but only one will leave as the 2024 Formula 2 Champion.
