Formula 1 and Apple Original Films announced on Tuesday that the highly anticipated film starring Brad Pitt will premiere in cinemas on June 25, 2025, internationally, and on June 27, 2025, in North America.
The film began production in 2023 in collaboration with F1, race organizers, and the FIA, and continues this year with the cast and crew scheduled to film at the 2024 British and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
It features Pitt as a former F1 driver persuaded to come out of retirement after a serious accident in the 1990s to compete alongside rookie Joshua Pierce, played by actor Damson Idris (Black Mirror, Snowfall), in the struggling APXGP team owned by Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall).
Both Pitt and Idris have been the main drivers in the APXGP F1 car, which is actually a disguised Formula 2 chassis designed to look like an F1 vehicle, and they joined the 20 real Grand Prix drivers on the grid at last year’s British GP.
Pitt and the rest of the cast also filmed scenes with a Porsche 911 GTD car at this year’s Daytona 24 Hours, suggesting that the film will begin with Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, at the start of the story.
Additional track footage was captured at Silverstone shortly after the Monaco GP, and the production also visited Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi last year.
Directing the film is Joseph Kosinski, known for his expertise in creating high-energy action as the director of Top Gun: Maverick.
Renowned Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also involved in the project, in collaboration with Lewis Hamilton’s production company, Dawn Apollo Films.
The scale of this film cannot be underestimated, as the production has received unprecedented access to create a movie that closely resembles the real F1 experience.
To fully immerse viewers, the film will be released in standard cinema format as well as IMAX, which uses high-quality cameras and projectors to provide the audience with the biggest and sharpest image on the big screen.
The film features an impressive cast, including Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Tobias Menzies (The Crown), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso), Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve, The Witcher), and Samson Kayo (Our Flag Means Death).
