Next year, radical changes in the broadcasting rights of Formula 1 may occur – being centralized on a single platform. We are talking about Apple TV.
A few months ago, the first rumors emerged about the alleged interest of the popular American technology brand in acquiring the television rights of the premier category. At the time, Business F1 magazine mentioned a proposal amounting to two billion dollars.
Everything indicates that the agreement may have already been closed, although there are no official announcements. If confirmed, the current formats of F1 television broadcasts – whether on the official F1TV platform or on traditional television – may change radically, being centralized on Apple’s own platform, which is Apple TV.
The brand already owns the broadcasting rights of the MLS – the football league of the United States – with great success. In this case, the broadcasts are not exclusive to Apple’s own channels (MLS Season Pass), as they are also available on other channels such as Fox Deportes.
Therefore, a potential purchase of the F1 television rights by Apple may mean, but not necessarily, the end of broadcasts on conventional television channels, such as SportTV in Portugal. In addition, there are signed and in-force agreements through which broadcasters pay considerably.
