Coulthard believes that the year 2024 will be the pinnacle of Formula 1 with intense competition among the drivers

The ongoing race has already produced seven different winners in the prestigious Grand Prix event.

The 2024 season of Formula 1 has exceeded all expectations so far. In this race, it was anticipated that Red Bull would dominate, but with 14 races completed, the sport has already witnessed seven different winners in the Grand Prix.

Both Red Bull and Mercedes are no longer the leading contenders in the sport, as the balance of power has been shifting from one race to another. At present, the battle for the world championship has turned into a fierce competition among Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes.

Considering the highly competitive field of the 2024 campaign, the former Formula 1 driver has referred to it as the ‘golden era.’

Observing the response of the former Red Bull driver, it is evident that he is extremely satisfied with the events that have unfolded on the race track this year. Furthermore, he believes that the close competition among the drivers provides an opportunity to determine who truly is the best driver in the current field.

While Coulthard appreciates the intense wheel-to-wheel action on the track, Ferrari, despite being in third place in the championship, has experienced a decline in performance. Since the Monaco race, the team has been on a downward trajectory in Formula 1.

However, despite this setback, the 53-year-old expects the Ferrari-led team to regain their form in the latter part of the 2024 season.

So far, the Maranello-based team has accumulated a total of 345 points, trailing the McLaren F1 team by only 21 points. Red Bull is also not far behind, currently holding 408 points. Considering this, Ferrari will have an opportunity, starting from the Zandvoort race onwards, to narrow the gap with the top two teams. The second half of the 2024 season promises to be an incredibly captivating spectacle.
