Guenther Steiner made the decision to release Mick Schumacher from the Haas F1 team after two disappointing seasons. Schumacher’s below-par performance and the added pressure of being the son of an F1 legend were key factors in his early exit from the top of the sport. However, the 24-year-old driver will have the opportunity to compete in the World Endurance Championship for Alpine this year.
The former Haas team principal brought Schumacher to the American team in 2021. However, Schumacher’s time with the Haas F1 team was marked by numerous costly errors and accidents, resulting in a total of 12 career points. As a result, he was eventually released from the team and took on a reserve role for Mercedes.
During the 2024 season, Steiner shared his thoughts on Schumacher’s potential return to F1. He believed that Schumacher’s performance in the WEC would be crucial in determining his future in the sport. If the 24-year-old driver fails to achieve good results, he may never have another opportunity to race in F1. However, with the driver market opening up in 2025, there is a possibility of Schumacher making a comeback.
In his WEC campaign this season, Mick Schumacher will take part in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 24-year-old driver expressed his feelings about this race, stating that he did not want to put too much pressure on himself in his debut. He acknowledged that others had hyped up the event for him and expressed his excitement to race in such an intense category. Schumacher also emphasized the adrenaline-filled nature of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Therefore, Schumacher’s performance in these categories will play a significant role in determining his future in Formula 1. If he can meet or exceed expectations, he may have the opportunity to enter F1 when the driver market opens up next season. Only time will tell how the 24-year-old driver will fare in Le Mans and whether he will be able to meet everyone’s expectations.
