Lewis Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes at the end of the 2024 F1 season. Former Jordan F1 team owner expressed his belief that the British driver will have a great opportunity to compete for the world championship next year at Ferrari. Hamilton had already announced his intention to join the Maranello-based team in 2025.
After 11 successful years with Mercedes, Hamilton will bid farewell to the team that claimed six world championships and an impressive 83 Grand Prix victories. Now, he embarks on a new journey with Ferrari, aiming for his eighth world championship in the upcoming seasons.
Eddie Jordan, Irish businessman, compared Hamilton’s move to Ferrari with his previous switch from McLaren to Mercedes in 2013. Jordan has faith in the 39-year-old driver’s abilities, stating that despite his age, Hamilton will pose a significant threat to all drivers, including his future teammate. The teammate in question has shown impressive performance this season and is currently in contention for the championship.
Hamilton has faced challenges this season with Mercedes, failing to secure a win or podium since the introduction of new regulations at the start of the 2022 season. However, he remains optimistic as he prepares for his move to Ferrari. The Italian team is a strong contender for the championship this season, relying on their powerful SF-24 car.
During the Canadian Grand Prix, McLaren driver Oscar Piastri expressed his surprise at Mercedes’ performance. Piastri noted that Mercedes displayed exceptional speed around the Montreal circuit, surpassing their previous performances.
Piastri also praised Mercedes for their tire management during the unpredictable conditions in Montreal. The team secured a third and fourth place, marking their best results of the 2024 season.
Despite strong competition from Hamilton and George Russell in the final stages of the race, Piastri managed to secure a fifth place. The young driver has been in excellent form this season and aims to return to the podium in two weeks, during the thrilling race in Barcelona.
