Former Ferrari star engineer joins Cadillac F1 team: will he ignite a championship revolution?

In a stunning shake-up within the world of Formula 1, Xavier Marcos Padros, previously the race engineer for racing sensation Charles Leclerc at Ferrari, has officially joined the Cadillac F1 team as their chief race engineer. This development marks a significant step for both Padros and Cadillac as they gear up for their highly anticipated F1 debut in 2026.

After an impressive tenure with Ferrari that saw Leclerc clinch five grand prix victories, Padros transitions to Cadillac following a reallocation within Ferrari, where he was engaged in various significant projects after the Miami Grand Prix in 2024. His departure from the Scuderia opened the door for Bryan Bozzi to take over Leclerc’s race engineering duties, leading to immediate success, including an emotional win in Monaco. However, the excitement of 2024 soon faded as Ferrari faced a dismal season in 2025 without any victories.

Padros’s journey through the ranks of F1 has been nothing short of remarkable. Before his notable stint at Ferrari beginning in 2018, he had served with HRT and Williams, notably as the performance engineer for former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa. His return to the pinnacle of motorsport with Ferrari established him as a key player in the team’s operations.

This thrilling development comes on the heels of exclusive revelations regarding the Cadillac F1 team’s race engineers for the upcoming season. The team has confirmed that Carlo Pasetti, formerly of Aston Martin, will be the race engineer for Sergio Perez, while the experienced John Howard, who spent nearly 15 years at Alpine, will take on the role for Valtteri Bottas. It’s a strategic move that showcases Cadillac’s commitment to building a competitive team right from the start.

Cadillac’s ambitious entry into Formula 1 has been underscored by their recent testing activities, with Perez getting behind the wheel of a sleek, all-black 2023 Ferrari F1 car during a crucial test at Imola. This event represented a pivotal moment for Cadillac, marking their first hands-on experience with F1 machinery as they prepare for a grueling debut season.

Marcos Padros’s new position is expected to play a critical role in shaping Cadillac’s approach to F1, particularly as they integrate cutting-edge technology and strategies that he honed while at Ferrari. The excitement surrounding his move is palpable, and fans are eager to see how his expertise will translate to the new challenges ahead.

As the countdown to the 2026 season begins, all eyes will be on Cadillac and their newly assembled team, led by the seasoned Padros. With the stakes higher than ever, the Formula 1 landscape is set for an electrifying transformation, and this strategic appointment could very well be the catalyst for Cadillac’s success in the fast-paced world of motorsport.

Stay tuned for more updates as we dive deeper into the evolving dynamics of Formula 1 and the thrilling stories that unfold in the paddock!
