BMW has announced that it is reorganizing its design division under the leadership of Adrian van Hooydonk, and the new team will begin its duties on October 1.
The biggest news is the arrival of Maximilian Missonim at BMW, who was previously responsible for the design at Polestar and played a key role in the development of the Swedish electric car brand.
Missonim will lead the design of Alpina, a brand known for its sportier versions of BMW, which has now become part of the German group’s ownership. This change signals not only a restructuring of the design teams within the German brand but also promises a new phase of innovation and style for Alpina, which will now have an even more integrated role in BMW’s portfolio, with expectations that new models will incorporate the design vision revealed by Missoni at Polestar.
The new organization of the design division, focused on the transformation of the company, promises to continue being a reference in the industry. For example, Colour and Material Design will be consolidated across all brands, while the BMW brand team will be divided into two studios, and the future topic of “Advanced Design” will be strengthened.
“Technology and customer preferences are changing faster than ever”, said Adrian van Hooydonk. “Automotive design has become more diverse. Designing digital and sound experiences also plays an increasingly important role, along with sustainable and recycled materials. Design showcases the full innovative potential of our products and brands. That’s why, more than ever, every detail matters, as does the holistic and harmonious integration of the various elements.”, concluded Adrian van Hooydonk.
