Ford has announced that it will cut up to 1,000 jobs at its production facility in Cologne, Germany, due to weak demand for electric vehicles in Europe, which has led the American brand to announce that it will reduce work shifts from two to one starting in 2026.
The exact number of positions affected by this reduction has not yet been determined, and meetings with employee representatives are expected in the near future.
It is worth noting that Ford announced at the end of 2024 its intention to reduce the number of workers in Europe by 4,000 by the end of 2027, due to the economic situation facing the automotive sector, with increased competition and sales below expectations.
According to “Zeit.de,” the timeline for job cuts is tight, as the reductions are scheduled to be completed by January 2026. This reduction in the workforce will leave the Cologne production facility with around 7,600 employees, which contrasts with the approximately 20,000 employees that existed at the end of the 2010s.
