Ford has suspended deliveries of the electric SUV Mustang Mach-E worldwide due to a software bug that may affect the opening of the doors of 197,000 vehicles in the U.S.
The bug is related to the 12-volt battery and may prevent the opening of the front doors, even if occupants have already exited the vehicle using the mechanical opening mechanism.
The issue is seen as a safety risk, as people or animals could become trapped inside the vehicle. Ford has already announced that, to date, it has no records of any accidents or injuries related to the software bug.
However, in the U.S., Ford will recall 197,000 units of the Mustang Mach-E, as announced this Thursday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
To resolve the issue, Ford is working on a software update, scheduled for release in the third quarter, which will not be conducted remotely, over-the-air, but rather at the brand’s dealerships, and it will be free of charge.
So far, Ford has not revealed whether the software bug issue affects the models sold in the European market.
