This is not an easy start to the year for Ford in the U.S., which has just recalled 272,817 vehicles due to concerns about battery failures, as revealed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The newly announced recall affects the 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport models, as well as the 2022-2023 Maverick.

The issue involves the 12-volt battery that may degrade and fail suddenly, which could result in the loss of electrical accessories, including emergency lights, or cause a loss of traction power, increasing the risk of an accident, according to the U.S. automotive safety regulator.

Ford has already stated that it will replace the 12-volt battery in the affected models free of charge.

It is worth noting that the NHTSA announced earlier this week the opening of an investigation in the U.S. regarding 129,222 Ford vehicles due to issues with the autonomous driving technology, BlueCruise.
