Ford will proceed with the recall of more than 254,000 vehicles in the United States following a software issue that may compromise driving assistance systems and the rearview camera image, according to information released by the U.S. road safety authority.
Failure may affect safety and assistance systems
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem is related to an unexpected restart of the image processing software. This failure may lead to the loss of the rearview camera image and disable various driver assistance features.
Among the potentially affected systems are the pre-collision assist, lane-keeping assist, and the blind spot monitoring system.
Several models covered by the recall
The recall campaign involves several SUV models from the group, namely the Lincoln Navigator, Lincoln Nautilus, Lincoln Aviator, and the Ford Explorer.
Software update resolves the issue
To rectify the situation, Ford will provide a software update, which can be performed at an authorized service center or, in some cases, through over-the-air updates.
The measure aims to eliminate the risk associated with failure and ensure the full operation of the assistance and safety systems of the affected vehicles.
