Ford is preparing a low-cost electric model that is expected to rival the announced Tesla Model 2.
According to Bloomberg, Ford will launch a crossover that is expected to have a price of €25,000 and will be equipped with an iron lithium phosphate (LFP) battery, considered 30% cheaper than a traditional lithium-ion battery. The company is also considering the use of other types of batteries to further reduce costs, so it is possible that it will use sodium-ion batteries.
Ford’s new electric crossover will be followed by a pickup of similar size and a vehicle for taxi services, which according to Bloomberg are being developed by a team led by Alan Clarke, who was responsible for the Tesla Model Y.
Recall that Ford CEO, Jim Farley, revealed in February that the American brand is working on developing an affordable electric vehicle platform, admitting that most customers are not willing to buy electric vehicles at high prices.
