The workers at Ford’s two factories in Germany will be on strike next Wednesday as a form of protest against the planned reduction of 2,900 jobs by the company’s management.
According to the head of the workers’ council, the strike will begin on Wednesday morning and will end when the night shift is over, that is, on Thursday morning.
Ford has two factories in Germany, one in Cologne, which has become the center for electric vehicle production and employs about 4,100 people, and another in Saarlouis, which has around 6,200 workers.
According to the metalworkers’ union IG Metall, the strike was called because Ford’s management in Germany wants to cut 2,900 jobs by 2027 to reduce costs.
This is the first time that workers at Ford in Cologne have gone on strike in the nearly 100-year history of the factory.
It is worth noting that Ford produces the Explorer SUV and the new Capri at the Cologne factory, both of which are 100% electric models based on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group, also used by the VW ID4 and ID5. Meanwhile, the Saarlouis factory currently produces the Focus.
