Sixty years and seven generations after the debut of the Ford Mustang at the New York World’s Fair on April 17, 1964, the American brand is celebrating the heritage of one of the most iconic vehicles in automotive history.
The model that broke paradigms by setting a sales record in the industry during its first year on the market, with over 418,000 units sold, numbers that have since continued to grow, making the Mustang the best-selling sports car globally for over 10 years.
There are already more than 10 million Mustangs sold since 1964, spread across seven generations. The iconic American sports car has made thousands of appearances in movies, television shows, music videos, and video games, even becoming the most beloved vehicle in the universe on Facebook.
To celebrate six decades of continuous Mustang production, Ford has introduced two new versions for Europe today. The new Mustang California Special brings a touch of modernity to a special version introduced for the first time in 1968.Available in eight exterior color options, including Iconic Silver and Vapour Blue, the California Special adds side stripes finished in a combination of Medium Light Rave Blue with High and Low Gloss Black, featuring a nearly invisible “GT/CS” inscription in low light, but becoming much more prominent in sunlight. Additionally, it features black surrounds around the headlights, paired with 19” machined-face alloy wheels with Rave Blue accents, complemented by a “GT/CS” badge on the front grille and another “GT” badge on the trunk lid, both finished in the same color.
In the interior, the California Special version is equipped with Navy Pier upholstery and Ebony Black leather seats, with Raptor Blue and Metal Grey stitching on the dashboard, doors, steering wheel, and central console, highlighting its exclusivity.
Ford has already announced that the Mustang California Special is available for order starting today in the Mustang GT convertible body configuration, with the option of a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission and a 5.0-liter V8 engine.
Furthermore, Ford celebrates the 60 years of the Mustang, with a new Nite Pony Package that adds even more character with subtle aesthetic enhancements.
This new package, also available for order starting today, in the Mustang GT coupe and convertible, with the option of manual or automatic transmission for the 5.0-liter V8, offers customers the option of a darker finish for their new Mustang. The pack includes Ebony Black alloy wheels, roof, mirror caps, and headlight frames in black, as well as “Pony” logos in black at the front and back, leaving no doubt that it is a true “mean machine.”
