Ford announced that the BlueCruise system has just received approval from the European Commission for its driver assistance system to be used in 15 European countries.
The level 2 autonomous driving system, which requires the driver to remain attentive and ready to immediately take control of the car when necessary, was already available in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Spain, but is now available in over a dozen countries, making it more comprehensive.
The system works with adaptive cruise control, stop & go, and lane-keeping assist with trajectory correction, while monitoring road markings, maximum speed signs, and traffic conditions.
The Mustang Mach-E is the only current Ford model with the latest version of BlueCruise in Europe and can now be used on approximately 133,000 European highways, known as Blue Zones.
“We believe that BlueCruise can make highway driving easier and more enjoyable, whether you’re in stop-and-go traffic or on a long road trip, and with this recent decision, it will allow us to offer even more drivers access to BlueCruise throughout Europe,” said Ashley Lambrix, Head of BlueCruise, Ford Motor Company. “Expanding the availability of Blue Zones beyond Great Britain, Germany, and Spain is also a major milestone for us, allowing customers to use BlueCruise for a multi-country journey.”
