Filipe Albuquerque’s Triumphant Return to Le Mans Elite Competition

Racing aficionados were thrilled as Filipe Albuquerque made a spectacular comeback to the top-tier Le Mans competition after a decade, representing Wayne Taylor Racing. The seasoned driver expressed his excitement, reminiscing about his last foray in the prestigious top class back in 2015 when he fiercely battled for victory, outshining even the mighty Porsches with Audi.

Albuquerque shared his elation, stating, “For a long time, there’s only been one manufacturer dominating the top class (Toyota in LMP1). Now, I’m back on track with the same drivers I raced against years ago — Buemi, Conway — and we’re fighting again, which feels great.” The thrill of competing alongside familiar faces reignited his passion for the sport, as he embraced the challenge of reclaiming his former glory.

After spending years in the competitive LMP2 category, Albuquerque underscored the class’s quality while emphasizing the significance of ascending back to a position where outright victory is within reach. He acknowledged Toyota’s remarkable achievements during his absence but highlighted the distinctiveness of clinching an overall win. The Portuguese driver emphasized the unparalleled gratification that comes with securing victory in the top class, asserting, “It’s more rewarding — and no one can take that away from you.”

Albuquerque’s partnership with Wayne Taylor Racing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship has been flourishing for five years, with the skilled driver co-piloting the #101 Cadillac V-Series alongside teammates Jordan and Ricky Taylor. His triumph at Le Mans in the fiercely competitive LMP2 category in 2020 with United Autosports was a testament to his unwavering dedication and prowess on the track, culminating in the LMP2 Drivers’ title during the FIA World Endurance Championship campaign.

Having participated in various Le Mans races in LMP2 machinery over the years, Albuquerque’s illustrious career showcases his enduring passion for endurance racing. His longstanding collaboration with United Autosports since 2017 has solidified his reputation as a formidable force in the motorsport realm, garnering respect and admiration from fans and competitors alike.

Filipe Albuquerque’s return to the summit of Le Mans racing has reignited the fervor of enthusiasts worldwide, as the illustrious driver sets his sights on conquering new milestones and etching his name in the annals of motorsport history.
