The ongoing investigation surrounding Christian Horner has taken a new turn with allegations that the FIA ignored two complaints from a whistleblower. The case appeared to have been closed after Red Bull cleared Horner of any wrongdoing, but recent developments have reignited discussions about the investigation. Despite this, Horner has continued to carry out his duties as team principal in Milton Keynes. However, new details about the case have emerged online.
The entire investigation revolved around allegations of inappropriate behavior by Horner towards a female employee. Following Red Bull’s final decision, the employee was suspended from the team. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem recently broke his silence on the matter, describing it as “harmful on a human level.” He also stated that the FIA was unable to take action due to a lack of direct complaints.
According to reports from the BBC, it is alleged that the FIA concealed two additional complaints made by a whistleblower regarding Horner’s behavior towards the female employee. The first complaint was made to the FIA’s ethics and compliance hotline on February 2. Furthermore, the second complaint was related to the first one, with the whistleblower threatening to make it public if no action was taken. However, the FIA has yet to release an official statement in response to these allegations, contradicting Ben Sulayem’s comments.
Although a lawyer appointed by Red Bull conducted the entire investigation, the team has been hesitant to share the investigation report. This has raised doubts about the credibility of the investigation among various individuals in the sport. Horner reiterated that a complaint was raised and handled professionally. He also emphasized that the lawyer involved is highly respected.
Horner also stated that the lawyer thoroughly examined all aspects of the case and ultimately dismissed the complaints. The 50-year-old man emphasized that the case is now in the past and that the team is fully focused on the 2024 season. Horner added that both he and the team have moved on from the matter.
Despite the rumors surrounding Horner, Red Bull has excelled in the 2024 season, scoring maximum points in the first two races. As a result, the team is operating as usual, looking towards future races and potentially aiming for a one-two finish.
