FIA delivers shocking verdict on Oscar Piastri’s penalty ahead of crucial F1 Qatar GP

FIA STANDS FIRM: NO CHANGES TO F1 DRIVING STANDARDS AHEAD OF THRILLING QATAR GP

As the adrenaline-fueled battle for the F1 championship reaches a fever pitch, the FIA has made a bold declaration: there will be no alterations to the driving standards guidelines for the final two races of the 2025 season! With just two rounds left to determine the fate of the championship, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Lando Norris currently holds a 24-point lead over rising star Oscar Piastri and the reigning champion Max Verstappen, with a staggering 58 points still up for grabs!

In an intense gathering ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix—the penultimate showdown of the season—the FIA convened with F1 drivers during their annual driving standards review. This crucial meeting provided a platform for drivers to voice their concerns and propose potential changes to the regulations. Among the hot topics was Piastri’s contentious 10-second penalty from the Brazilian Grand Prix, a decision that has sparked outrage among fans and pundits alike!

During the Brazilian race, chaos erupted at Turn 1 as Piastri, Kimi Antonelli, and Charles Leclerc went three-wide following a safety car restart. Piastri’s unfortunate lock-up led to a collision that sent Antonelli crashing into Leclerc, effectively ending the Monegasque’s race. Despite Piastri being deemed the guilty party, Leclerc himself criticized the penalty, stating it was excessively harsh and that Antonelli shared the blame.

However, per the FIA’s published driving standards for the season, the penalty was deemed appropriate. The meeting aimed to discuss whether revisions to these guidelines were necessary, especially in light of the recent controversies surrounding penalties.

In a statement following the meeting, the FIA confirmed the decision to stick with the existing regulations: “The discussion was frank, open, and conducted in a very collegial atmosphere, which was greatly appreciated by the stewards. The points raised will inform any future refinements to the DSGs, in consultation with the GPDA and the FIA Drivers’ Commission. No changes will be made for the final two Grands Prix of the 2025 season.”

But Piastri’s penalty wasn’t the only incident on the agenda! The FIA also dissected the corner-cutting debacles involving Verstappen and Leclerc during the Mexican GP, where many felt a lenient approach allowed them to gain an unfair advantage without punishment. Additionally, the clash between Carlos Sainz and Ollie Bearman at Monza was scrutinized, revealing that five separate incidents were discussed in total.

As the Qatar Grand Prix looms, the tension is palpable. Will Norris maintain his lead? Can Piastri bounce back from his penalty setback? Fans are on the edge of their seats, and all eyes will be glued to the track for what promises to be an explosive showdown!

Stay tuned as we bring you the latest from the heart of the action—this championship is far from over!
