Ferrari’s Strategic Moves in Response to FIA’s New Regulations: Impact on 2025 F1 Championship Race

Ferrari’s SF-25 has been making waves ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, with the team’s top brass alerting the F1 community to expect the unexpected. The team’s principal, Fred Vasseur, and technical director, Loic Serra, have hinted that the race’s pecking order may not be a true indicator of what’s to come in the F1 2025 season.

The Bahrain test a fortnight ago offered some insights into the potential starting line-up for F1 2025. However, as we draw closer to the season’s inaugural race in Melbourne this weekend, it’s becoming clear that the starting grid may not be as predictable as it seemed. According to PlanetF1.com, McLaren might take the lead, followed by Red Bull/Mercedes, and then Ferrari. But is this truly reflective of the season ahead?

Ferrari is confident in the data they have gathered, but caution that the results from Australia may not be an accurate forecast of the season’s progression. The team, fresh from a major contract with seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who is set to partner with Charles Leclerc, will undoubtedly be under the microscope as the season begins.

Vasseur expressed his excitement for the upcoming race, commenting, “The wait is finally over and we’re ready to take to the track for the first race of the season.” He acknowledged that the Albert Park street circuit isn’t fully representative of what the rest of the season may hold, but expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, which included hard work and training by the drivers during the winter.

Ferrari’s new chassis technical director, Serra, who recently shifted from Mercedes along with Hamilton, also spoke about the impending season. He affirmed the positive correlation between the car and simulator data which is a promising sign for the team’s performance. However, he reiterated the significance of weather conditions, particularly their impact on car behaviour and tyres.

Serra also commented on the Bahrain test, saying that despite challenging weather conditions, the test was a comprehensive exercise with the car running reliably with no major issues. Further, he said, “The SF-25 headline numbers were pretty much in line with expectations and the car responds well to set-up changes.”

While McLaren’s potential early dominance is causing a stir, the Ferrari team is focused on their own performance and development. They aim to have a strong start to the season, providing a solid foundation to build on as the races progress. As Vasseur aptly put it, “A week ago, we were given a wonderful welcome by a huge crowd of our tifosi in Milan and now, in Melbourne, we will be aiming to give all our fans further reason to be proud of us.”

In the unpredictable and fast-paced world of Formula 1, one thing is certain: Ferrari’s performance in the Australian GP and the F1 2025 season will be closely watched. Whether they’ll confirm or defy expectations remains to be seen. As fans and competitors eagerly await the start of the season, the anticipation is palpable.
