Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton: A Thriving Partnership After a Rocky Start

In a stunning turn of events, Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has revealed that the relationship between the legendary Lewis Hamilton and the iconic Italian racing team has blossomed into a robust alliance this season. After a tumultuous debut year in 2025 that left fans and critics alike questioning Hamilton's future, the seven-time world champion is now thriving, showcasing his undeniable talent with a strong performance in the early races of the 2026 season.

Hamilton's inaugural campaign with Ferrari was nothing short of disastrous; he failed to secure even a single podium finish, leaving a cloud of uncertainty hanging over his future with the team. However, the 2026 season has seen a dramatic turnaround, highlighted by a commendable third-place finish in the recent Chinese Grand Prix. Vasseur has emphasized that Hamilton is now in a far better position than he was just a year ago, thanks to his increased involvement in the design and development of the 2026 car.

“Honestly, it’s always much easier the second one, because you are part of the project,” Vasseur stated, shedding light on the dynamic transformation within the team. From the outset, Hamilton was deeply engaged, participating in simulator sessions as early as mid-2025 when the groundwork for the new car was being laid. This hands-on approach has fostered a sense of ownership and familiarity, allowing the British driver to feel more integrated into the team's fabric.

Vasseur continued, “He feels also a bit more involved in the project than he was one year ago. When he joined the team in January, the car was already there. He knows everybody a little bit more, the relationship is getting better and better.” This growing rapport is not only enhancing team morale but is also positioning Hamilton to collaborate more effectively with his colleagues, paving the way for a more cohesive operation on the track.

Despite Ferrari's current position trailing behind the dominant Mercedes, who have swept the first two races of the season, Vasseur remains optimistic. He believes Hamilton's newfound comfort and confidence will be instrumental in Ferrari's ambitious quest to close the gap with the Brackley-based juggernaut. “Step by step, we have to do marginal gains because it’s like this that we will close the gap,” he asserted, signaling a determined push for improvement as the season unfolds.

As Ferrari aims to reclaim its glory in Formula 1, the synergy between Vasseur, Hamilton, and the entire team could very well be the catalyst for an exhilarating resurgence. With the season still in its infancy, racing enthusiasts and fans alike will be watching closely to see how this compelling narrative evolves. Will Hamilton and Ferrari rise to the challenge and dethrone Mercedes? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the stage is set for an electrifying showdown in the world of motorsport.
