Inside Adrian Newey’s Controversial Exit from Red Bull: Coulthard Reflects on Uncomfortable Split

Adrian Newey’s Move to Aston Martin Leaves Ferrari with a Sour Taste of Regret

In a shocking turn of events, rumors have surfaced suggesting that Ferrari is filled with regret over missing out on securing the services of F1 design guru Adrian Newey after his departure from Red Bull last year. As Newey gears up to make his debut appearance as an Aston Martin employee at the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix, the Italian team is left lamenting what could have been.

The saga began when Newey announced his decision to part ways with Red Bull, prompting intense speculation linking him to Ferrari. Reports even claimed that team principal Fred Vasseur flew to London for talks with Newey ahead of last year’s Miami Grand Prix, in a bid to lure him to Maranello. However, negotiations fell through, and Newey eventually signed on with Aston Martin in September.

Since then, Newey has taken on the role of managing technical partner at Aston Martin, even becoming a shareholder in the F1 team. Ferrari, on the other hand, has struggled at the start of the season, with only one podium finish between their drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton so far.

As Aston Martin confirms Newey’s imminent trackside appearance at Monaco, a report from Corriere della Sera has revealed that insiders at Ferrari are ruing the missed opportunity to bring Newey on board in 2024. The Italian team is now faced with a crucial mid-season upgrade as they aim to salvage their season, with a revised rear suspension expected to debut at the British Grand Prix in July.

Meanwhile, Newey is already looking ahead to the future, working on Aston Martin’s new car for the 2026 season under the incoming engine supplier Honda. Teaming up with partners Aramco and Valvoline, Newey has hinted at potential innovations in the F1 regulations for 2026, suggesting that teams will have room for different approaches and solutions, much like in the 2022 season.

Former F1 World Champion Damon Hill has even hinted at a possible breakthrough by Newey, alluding to a potential trick up Aston Martin’s sleeve for the upcoming season. With Ferrari left to rue their missed opportunity, all eyes are now on Newey and Aston Martin as they gear up for the challenges that lie ahead in the world of Formula 1.
