Ferrari’s F1 Season Plummets to New Depths as Williams Outpaces Them on the Track

Ferrari’s Formula 1 season has hit a new low as they were beaten by Williams on “pure pace” during the Miami Grand Prix qualifying session. The disappointing results saw Charles Leclerc qualify eighth fastest and Lewis Hamilton in 12th place, marking Ferrari’s worst combined qualifying performance of the season so far.

This setback comes amidst a series of struggles for Ferrari, with both drivers expressing frustrations over the lack of speed in their cars compared to their competitors. Hamilton, in particular, highlighted the challenges they faced, stating, “On pure pace, we’ve been outqualified by a Williams – who are doing a great job, James [Vowles] and his team are doing an amazing job, but on pure pace that’s where we are.”

Despite efforts to upgrade the car, including a new floor introduced in Bahrain, Ferrari has been unable to bridge the performance gap, leaving drivers like Leclerc to grapple with a car that is not delivering as expected. Leclerc revealed the struggles they face, stating, “We can run it in different ways, but we just don’t have the downforce the others have at the moment, especially at low speed.”

The lack of performance in low-speed corners, a domain where Ferrari traditionally excelled, raises concerns about the team’s overall competitiveness in the current season. With Ferrari’s continued underperformance, questions arise about their strategic direction and whether they are sacrificing strengths for overall balance, akin to Williams’ struggles in the previous season.

Hamilton, still acclimating to his new team, voiced his frustrations with the car’s unpredictability, emphasizing the challenges in extracting performance from the Ferrari. He expressed the team’s urgent need for upgrades and improvements to enhance their competitiveness on the track.

As Ferrari grapples with their faltering performance, the pressure mounts for the team to address their car’s deficiencies and make significant strides to reclaim their competitive edge in the fiercely contested Formula 1 season.
